  Statement of Annual Meeting

Foreign Affairs Committee

All Burma Federation of Student Union

3rd October 2003

1. 2003 Annual Meeting of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions-Foreign Affairs Committee was successfully held on October 1-2 at the Thai-Burma
border. At the meeting, the present political situation and developments were
discussed and analyzed by the Committee members. Then, we decided the upcoming activities and elected the Committee's leadership for 2003-2004 activities.

2. At the meeting, we concluded our vision on present political situation as follows:

(a) As a first and foremost step towards political development in Burma, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners and detainees must be released.

(b) All nationalities must be allowed to freely participate in peaceful political activism.

(c) In any political framework or roadmap, the 1990 general election result must be recognized in the process.

(d) Burma Issue should be raised and discussed at the United Nations Security Council for the effective United Nations' mediation to Burma's problems, since
Burma's various problems have become a threat to international peace and security.

(e) The civil and political rights of all nationalities in Burma must be practiced, while all the welfare of human beings in the country are fulfilled compatible with country's resources, in order to be a democratic Burma.

(f) A strong coalition force is urgently needed for the exile Burma's democracy movements:

ABFSU-FAC views the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB) as a platform for a strong exile coalition of Burma's democracy movement, but should be more active as a real coalition force. We commit ourselves to participate in such a
Coalition.

(g) We appreciate the report of United Nations' Secretary General to 58th session of United Nations General Assembly and human rights report of United Nations' Human Rights special Rapporteur on Burma to 58th session of United Nations
General Assembly, as these reports reflect the true situation and an approach to solve the problems in Burma.
