We cordially invite you to attend the conference to end the Regime in Burma.
October 11-12, 2003 Fort Wayne, Indiana

More than four decades in the past, Burma has remained in the spin of violent, civil wars, ethnic conflict, national instability, and lack of democracy and human rights.

Since 1962, the people of Burma suffered under the military rules until today. In 1988, millions of people across the nation stood up into streets and called for restoring democracy in Burma. However, the military regime again killed and imprisoned thousands of innocent students and civilians in a bloody coup on September 18, 1988.

In 1990, Burma had a free and fair election and the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by 1991 Noble Peace Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, won overwhelmingly. However, the military regime still refused to honor the election results and put almost all of the elected MPs, members of the NLD party and student activists in notorious jails all over Burma.

Although NLD offered a dialogue for national reconciliation, the regime sponsored May 30th DAPAYIN MASSACRE clearly indicates that the regime has no desire towards the National Reconciliation. It is prepared to even terrorize its own people if they feel their power has been threatened. At least 70 people died during that ambush and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Tin Oo and dozens of NLD members were illegally detained, most CEC members of NLD were put under house arrest and NLD offices across country were
forced to close. This is the result of a deliberate and well-plotted scheme to totally eliminate the spirit of
democracy in Burma.

The latest show of the regime, so called “ General Khin Nyunt’s Road Map “ is nothing but an attempt to legalized and prolongs the military rules in Burma and it simply tried to exclude the national leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the 1990 elections result. Therefore, we strongly condemn it.

The vivid representation of cruelties, arrogance, lies, violence, rapes, tortures, killings and all kinds of violations against human beings by the military must be ended in Burma and it is high time now to bring peace and prosperity to Burma.

We truly believe that without termination of any DICTATORSHIP system in our motherland, we will never
achieve DEMOCRACY. Therefore, it is also time for us to work hand in hand to terminate the present regime and to find the way to Democratic Burma now. We, Burmese democratic forces in exile have decided to call a road map for democracy in Burma conference among us to seriously discuss on how we can contribute to such a process of change for the betterment of our motherland and people. We hope that our conference will serve as a goal-driven step in that direction. Therefore, the major objectives of the road map for democracy in Burma conference are:

• to promote serious discussion among the democratic forces

• to find the way to self-funding revolution

• to enhance cooperation among the democratic forces in the movement

• to draw a plan to end the military rules in Burma

We strongly urge your participation to facilitate change in Burma. In order to maintain the momentum of our struggle since 1988, the Burmese Democratic Forces decided to come together at the ROAD MAP for DEMOCRACY in BURMA conference so that we would materialize our vision for a NEW DEMOCRATIC BURMA.
