Statement
on 5th Anniversary of the formation of CRPP
16.9.2003 is the 5th Anniversary of the formation of CRPP (Committee
Representing People's Parliament). Members of Parliament who were
elected in 1990 general election had resolutely determined to undertake
the duties imbued upon them by the people with utmost endeavors.
Accordingly, to fulfill the people's desire, National League for
Democracy together with the democratic ethnic nationalities groups
formed the CRPP aiming for convening of the parliament, thereby
which will lead the way to the genuine federal union. Even before
then, NLD which had won the majority votes in 1990 election and
ethnic nationalities parties had already called on the authorities
to convene the parliament and hand over power by Gandhi Hall declaration
and Bo Aung Kyaw joint declaration. Later on CRPP has wisely extended
its formation making it possible to include all ethnic nationalities
parties and individuals. It has actually based on the notion that
the parliament must be formed only with the elected members of parliament.
The military junta, fearful of that notion, arrested and threatened
repeatedly the members of CRPP and elected members of parliament.
We, the members of NLD (LA) Australia Branch, in honour of its historic
5th anniversary, salute CRPP, which has been courageously toiling
its way through very brutally repressive situation. We also welcome
the day in support of the CRPP's unwavering endeavors. On this red-letter
day, we make our solemn resolution again to give out our total support
to CRPP.
