The Women
of Burma Walk in New York
The aim of our NYC Women’s community group is to lend a hand
to existing organizations, whose mission is to help the women of
Burma. Right now,
we have chosen to do a Walk-a-thon which will raise money for The
Women’s League of Burma (WLB) who is an umbrella organization
of 11 organizations, including The Shan Women Action Network (SWAN).
By assisting the WLB in reaching their mission, we can ultimately
empower each and every woman on the Thai-Burma border. Join
us as we walk 10K (6 miles) around Central Park at 10 A.M. on Saturday,
September 27, 2003. Please use the pledge form attached to
raise money for Burmese Women refugees and bring it with you to
the Walk on Saturday. Sponsors may pledge a one-time donation or
they may pledge per Mile or Kilometer. If you need more room please
make a photocopy of the pledge form and continue your fundraising
efforts.
On the day of the event, please arrive at Bethesda Terrace (enter
on 72nd Street) near the big fountain in central park at 9:30 a.m.
sharp. I have attached a map of central park as well to guide you
to the starting line. There will be three drinking stations along
the course but I recommend you bring a water bottle of your own
too. Please remember to dress appropriately. The Walk-a-thon will
proceed rain or shine. The 10K (6 mile) should approximately be
2 1/2 hours long. You will also be given a race number to wear on
your shirt that morning.
The race number for everyone will be 8-8-88.
If you have are interested in walking or volunteering
please contact 646-303-3305 ASAP to register. I’d like to
thank you in advance for considering joining our Walk-a-thon and
assisting our sisters along the border.
