ROAD MAP FOR DEMOCRACY IN BURMA
We cordially invite you to a conference for the democratic Burma
October 11-12, 2003 Fort Wayne, Indiana

The past decade saw an explosion of violent civil wars and national conflict but nothing saw many cases of peace settlements.

Firmly convinced that Burma has to be changed. We, Burmese democratic forces in exile have decided to call a road map for democracy in Burma conference among us to discuss on how we can contribute to such a process of change for the betterment of our mother country and the people. We strongly believe that many of us who were politically active during and since the 1988 popular uprising and before should come together to share our knowledge, ideas, and experiences which could be helpful in rebuilding our country into a peaceful and democratic one. By sponsoring this conference we hope to contribute our best to the country human capital development and strategies for a new Burma.

It is high time now to bring peace to Burma and make the country reclaim its strong position in technology and economy in the Asia-pacific region. We hope our conference serves as a stepping-stone in that direction. Therefore, major objectives of the road map for democracy in Burma conference are:

- to promote serious discussion among the democratic forces about national
conflict resolution today and in future

- to promote democratic transition in Burma

- self-funding in revolution

- to enhance cooperation among the democratic forces in the movement to
promote political transition in Burma.

We truly believe that it is time for us now to work hand in hand to facilitate change in Burma. In this delicate and complex process of democratic transition lies our country future. The political stagnation that has existed since the time of independence should no longer hinder the country from pursuing its potentials to the fullest. The inflow of experiences and educational knowledge will certainly benefit this transitional process.

In order to maintain the momentum of our struggle since 1988, the Burmese democratic forces decided to come together at the road map for democracy in Burma conference so that we would materialize our vision for a new Burma.
