Sanctions on Burma

Dear Burmese democratic community members,
(1) 52 million people of Burma have been suffering a great deal
of hardships under the military dictatorship for many years. Among
them, especially, family members of the National League for Democracy,
political dissidents, ethnic nationalities and political prisoners
are systematically denied the assess to proper education, business,
health care and social service unfairly in their daily life.
(2.) Therefore, we strongly believe that exposing and expelling
the familymembers of the military regime and its associates who
are studying and doing business in the United States, violating
the current visa restrictions imposed by the US government, are
right and fair duty for all of us.
(3.) It is utmost important not to hurt the innocent people by
wrongful accusations, as we are working for freedom, justice, and
democracy for our motherland. Please check the following categories
of the persons who are included in the visa restrictions, which
is declared by the US Department of State.
1. Members of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) (Formerly
the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC)) and their immediate
families;
2. Government ministers and other senior Burmese government
officials and their immediate families
3. All officials of the Union Solidarity Development Association
(USDA) and their immediate families
4. Military above the rank of colonel and their immediate families;
5. Civil servants above the rank of Director-General and their
immediate families.
6. Managers of state-owned enterprises and their immediate families.
State-owned enterprises include, but are not limited to the following:

(4.) We have informed the US Department of State that Chief Justice,
its deputies and member Judges, Attorney General, its deputies,
and member attorneys, Accountant General, its deputies, and member
accountants, chairman and members of the election commission and
their immediate families, should be included in category 2.
We also informed the State Department that in category 5, director-generals
and managing directors are the highest positions for the civil servants
and they should be included.
We also inquired the State Department that whether son-in-law and
daughter-in-law are included in the list of immediate family members
or not.
(5.) Please check the list below who are not covered by the visa
restrictions.
1. Ambassador, military attaché and staff members and their
family members from the SPDC's embassy in Washington, DC.
2. Permanent Representative, its deputy and staff members and their
family members from the SPDC's United Nations office in New York.
3. Persons who are working for the United Nations and its affiliated
organizations in New York.
4. Members of the previous regimes, the Revolutionary Council (1962-1974)
and the Burmese Socialist Programme Party (1974-1988).
5. Military officers, rank of Colonel and below.
(6.) We would like to request the cooperation and suggestions of
the Burmese democratic community members to have accurate and right
information. Please check with the lists mentioned above before
making any complaints to be sure not to hurt the innocent people.
