Burma: A land of Heroes:
Burma gained her independence from British on January 4, 1948.
Six months before the independence, on July 19, 1947, the architect
of Burma independence and national leader U Aung San (The father
of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi) and his cabinet members and a guard --
altogether 9, were gunned down. The whole country mourned, and the
day is now known as Martyrs day or Arzani Nay in Burmese.
The assassination of U Aung San and other political leaders could
be one of the reason, Burma was later overrun by Military thugs
and developed a worse dictatorship on the face of the earth that
continues until now for more than for four decades.
The brutal dictatorship produces more such heroes beginning from
7th-July students massacred in Rangoon University in 1962, to May-30
Black Friday ambush killings of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's NLD party
members and supporters in 2003. UN Secretary General U Thant Affair
killing in 1974, and the crackdown killing of democracy uprising
in 1988 are no less bloodier. That is not to forget the crackdown
of labor uprising in 1975 and 100th Anniversary of the Birth of
Thakhin Ko Daw Hmaing in 1976, in which thousands of students and
workers were attacked, killed, arrested and some were hanged to
death.
While we are seeking the demise the Military thugs in Burma to
end their killing spree, it is important to remember all those brave
fallen heroes who put their life on line and stood up against the
smokey guns of Burma's military thugs.
Please kindly join us at the commemorative swan offering event
this coming Saturday to pay tribute to all those Martyrs and fallen
heroes of Burma.
