A) Sham Demonstrations against NLD – forced and staged.
Myan-aung town
The township and village PDCs organized and instructed each ten-house
headman to bring 3 persons and every PDC member to bring five individuals
to the Myan-aung oil field to stage a demonstration against the
NLD on the 18th June. They had to carry thick bamboo clubs and spears
and shout “NLD – we don’t want you”. A video
record of this was taken for submission to the authorities above.
No one turned up on the following day and this exercise was stopped.
Mandalay
In the last week of June, five hundred (complete sets) of monk’s
robes was delivered to the Central Military Command in the Mandalay
Palace.
During the same week, the authorities summoned the owners of a
total of 3000 vehicles from the bus lines and owners of about 5000
motor cycles and made them sign written undertakings that they would
come when called.
The authorities informed them that if they did not sign as above
or if they breached the undertaking, their licenses would be withdrawn.
Information received from a member of the USDA is that plans were
being made for the staging of a big demonstration with 3000 motor
vehicles and 5000 motor cycles to protest against the NLD.
To facilitate the commandeering of vehicles, the authorities have
developed a crafty strategy allowing made in china cars and cycles
to operate illegally with immunity by issuing them with papers and
identity certificates showing that they act as assistants to the
different authorities such as the CID, BSI, MI, Buddhist monastery
etc and the price is as much as ten to fifteen thousand Kyats per
year. The owners are thus obliged to be ready for the use of the
authorities in any emergency.

during June have been sent up for trial before a tribunal.
