New York Coalition for a Democratic Burma

Announcement for one-month anniversary of Black Friday

Ever since violent assassination was carried out on General Aung San in 1947, the country of Burma has been going through nationwide conflagration and the people of Burma have been living in fear under unbearable and villainous system of dictatorship. After decades of systematically terrorizing its public, military regime of Burma now has further extended its terror to a point where the hope and dream of democracy and freedom will be rooted out by attempting to execute assassination, this time, on Aung San Suu Kyi, our legitimate leader and champion of freedom and democracy. "Black Friday" or Tapayin incident on May 30, 2003 was nothing but obvious revelation of what evil regime is trying to accomplish.

The aftermath of Tapayin incident is extremely crucial period, for the battle between democracy and dictatorship is at peak. The answer to the question of who will triumph in the end is forthcoming and depends to large extent on all of us. Hence, we need to be mindful of the nature and evolution of this battle.
- This battle is created and challenged by them not us.
- Peaceful dialogue conceived and initiated by our sincere hearts is recklessly destroyed by their evil hands.
- Our constructive attempt toward trust building is completely turned around by their destructive animal instinct.
- Our kind offer for them to cooperate with international institutions is foolishly neglected and rejected by their mindless manipulations.

They have gone way too far. No remedy can cure the disease of destruction deeply rooted in them. And their downfall is unavoidable and imminent.

However, since the enemy we are dealing with is one of the most evil and brutal regimes on the face of earth, we must be united and follow precisely what our leader Aung San Suu Kyi has repeatedly reminded us—to be truthful, to love the truth and to passionately sacrifice for the good of many.

Most importantly, our democratic forces—both inside and abroad—need to be mindfully hone our tool, and wisely and strategically execute our plan until we triumph over our common enemy of humanity and bring democracy and freedom to the people of Burma.
