Plight of the Massacre Victims sent to Shwebo Prison

A) From information available to us 44 of the survivors of the 30th May 2003 BLOODY SLAUGHTER were picked up and incarcerated in the jail at Shwebo on the 31st May.

They are:-

1) U Saw Hlaing (NLD MP from Indaw township)
2) U Myint Kyi (NLD MP from Kathar township)
3) U Bo Maung (NLD MP from Depayin township)
4) U Zaw Htun (Sai Pyin sub township)
5) U Soe Moe Kyaw (Younger brother of U Win Myint Aung, NLD MP)
6) Ko Naing Naing Aung (Mandalay) (Name yet to be confirmed)
7) Ko Aung Aung (Mandalay)
8) Ko Myo (Mandalay) (Name yet to be confirmed)
9) U Bar Bar (Chair of Sagaing Division NLD)
10) U Tun Myaing (Secretary of Sagaing Division NLD)
11) U Tin Htut Oo (NLD MP from Laeway township)
(Head of Upper Burma NLD Youth Organisation Committee)
12) Ko Tayza Naing (Member of Upper Burma NLD Youth Organising Committee)
13) U Aung San (Chair of Butalin township NLD)
14) U Aung Soe (Member of Mandalay Division NLD)
15) Ko Kyaw Soe Lin (Driver of Daw Su's car at that incident)
16) Ko Kyaw Aung (Secretary, Mandalay North West township NLD)
17) Ko Win Khaing (Mandalay NLD Youth)
18) Ko Thet Htun Oo (Mandalay NLD Youth)
19) Ko Zaw Aung (Mandalay NLD Youth) (Name yet to be confirmed)
20) Ko Zaw Khin (Son of U Hla Myint, Amarapura township)
He is suffering multiple life threatening wounds caused by
knives, clubs, and spears.
The necklace and ring he was wearing and cash (over forty
thousand Kyats) were snatched away.

(Member of Upper Burma Youth Organising Committee)
Head wounds required 10 stitches at the front and 4 stitches
at the back.
22) U Ye Myint Aung (Mandalay North East township NLD)
Head wound (front) required 4 stitches.
23) U Hla Myint (Amarapura township NLD)

Life threatening injuries

26) Aung Thu Win (Monywa , Second Year University Student)

Entire back covered with wounds caused by swords, and bamboo
spears
29) Ko Thein Aung (Mandalay North West township)
Head injuries required 14 stitches in the front, 6 stitches at the
Back. The gash on the forehead was 3 inches in length.
30) Reverend Nyannainda (Yankin monetary, Monywa township)
(Left hand multiple fractures)
31-34) Monks (4) from Yankin monetary, Monywa
35-44) Monks, students and laymen.

Military Intelligence Unit No 20 Commander and members are presently brutally interrogating the victims in the Shwebo jail. Ko Tin Tut U and Ko Kyaw Soe Lin are being cruelly and specially targeted.

Four other monks and thirty others (names unknown) are also suffering grievous injuries.

None of them have recovered and it is learnt that they are not receiving treatment in the jail.
Worse still - they are placed in the same ward with AIDS sufferers.

B) Three NLD (Mandalay North West Branch) members, including Ko Thein Toe Aye were beaten to death on the killing field in Depaiyin.

C) Most recent information is that 10 Youth Wing members (listed below) who acted as Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s bodyguard and accompanied her to Rangoon were sent to Shwebo jail on the 1st of June.

All of them (nine persons) except Ko Kyaw Zin Lin were transferred to another unknown locality on the 4th June 2003.
