On May 30, 2003, having orchestrated a premeditated violent ambush, Than Shwe's regime in Burma attacked on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (1991 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and legitimately elected leader of Burma), the other democracy leaders and activists. The regime is clearly attempting to terrorize democracy activists and to squash the democracy movement in Burma.

Hundreds of men attacked the democracy activists with clubs, spears, and guns. The junta’s using hired goons and members of it own brown-shirts-type group, the "Union Solidarity Development Association" orchestrated and staged last month of May 30 attack, killing as many as one hundred, injuring many more of her supporters and injuring Daw Aung San Suu Kyi herself. We got credible reports suggest that the regime’s thugs targeted our democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi personally. In the time since, the regime has rounded up and detained dozens of people and many more are missing - some feared dead. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other NLD leaders, including NLD Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, 75, have also been held prisoner since.

The May 30th massacre spelled the end of any hopes for political dialogue in Burma. Although the regime had engaged in "confidence building" talks sponsored by the United Nations, in the past year the junta has refused to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The crackdown is only the latest episode in a long list of human rights atrocities committed by the regime, which has been widely condemned for using rape as a weapon of war, for using more child soldiers than any other country - 70,000, for widespread use of torture, and for imprisoning more than 1,400 political prisoners - many in solitary confinement.

We have not forgotten the many activists already paid their lives as unsung heroes for Democracy in Burma. Military junta still using rape as weapon of war, using more child soldier, wide spreading use of torture , imprisoning many political prisoners who remain in Burma jails, making political repression country-wide, closing National League for Democracy offices, shuttering universities, rejected the 1990 election result, and making massacre people of Burma.

Burma Human Rights situation was getting worse and no progress is being made toward democratization. We urge you to join us to denounce Burma’s military regime for its state-sponsor terrorist acts and illegal rule over the Burmese people. And also let us assemble to honor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 58th Birthday, to honor The National League for Democracy and the people of Burma for their relentless struggle for freedom and Democracy in Burma.
