Why: May-30th Burma's military violent attacks against Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi and her party leaders in northern Burma and ongoing
crackdown over the weekend, detaining herself and scores of leaders.
As many as 70 people feared killed in the attack and whereabouts
of Suu Kyi and other leaders are unknown. Military regime has also
closed National League for Democracy (NLD) offices throughout the
country, closed all universities and colleges and suspended resumption
of high school and primary school classes. It is clear that the
regime is afraid of public outpouring of support for Aung San Suu
Kyi and her party, turning away from peaceful solution. Suu Kyi's
party, National League for Democracy (NLD) won landslide victory
in Burma's 1990 General Election, but never allowed to rule.
Concerned world leaders form United States, France, U.K., Asean
and Organizations including United Nations, Amnesty International,
Human Rights Watch are calling for immediate release of her. Supporters
of freedom and democracy in Burma worldwide have been demonstrating
to call for her release and for international pressure on the regime.
