| DEAR FRIENDS OF FREEDOM
IN BURMA
ON MAY 30, 2003, THE THAN SHWE'S REGIME IN BURMA ORCHESTRATED A
VIOLENT AMBUSH ON DAW AUNG SAN SUU KYI AND THE OTHER DEMOCRACY LEADERS
AND ACTIVISTS. THE REGIME IS CLEARLY ATTEMPTING TO TERRORIZE DEMOCRACY
ACTIVISTS AND SUPPORTERS AND TO SQUASH THE DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT.
AS FREE BURMA ACTIVISTS AND SUPPORTERS, THIS TIME WE MUST SPEAK
-- AND ACT --UNEQUIVOCALLY AGAINST THE GENERALS' COWARDLY ACTS TOWARD
THE BURMESE DEMOCRATS WHO STRIVE TOWARD BURMA'S PEACEFUL TRANSITION
TO DEMOCRACY.
WHILE SOME MAY INTERPRET THESE ATTACKS AS A NEW ROUND OF CRISIS,
WE CONSIDER THEM A SIGN OF A WEAKENING, FRAGILE AND FIRGHTENED REGIME.
INDEED THE REGIME MIGHT BE ON ITS LAST LEGS, HAVING ANGERED BURMESE
CITIZENS AND CONCERNED INDIVIDUAL AND GOVERNMENTS AROUND THE WORLD.
THE ATTACKS AGAINST FREEDOM IN BURMA ARE ATTACKS AGAINST US ALL
WHO CHERISH FREEDOM AS A PRINCIPLE, A VALUE, AND AN ORGANIZING PRINCIPLE.
IN A PROACTIVE MOVE, WE ARE INITIATING A COORDINATED AND SUSTAINED
PUSH FOR THE REGIME CHANGE IN BURMA, WORKING WITH BOTH POLITICAL
LEADERS AND DEMOCRATIC CITIZENS AROUND THE WORLD.
NOW, MORE THAN EVER, THE BURMESE PEOPLE AND THEIR DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP
NEED YOUR HAND OF SOLIDARITY. THEY ARE FIGHTING THE MOST IMPORTANT
STRUGGLE OF THEIR LIFE -- FOR THEIR FREEDOM.
AND WE URGE YOU TO JOIN THEM IN THEIR HOUR OF NEEDS. JOIN THE FBC'S
GLOBAL PUSH FOR THE REGIME CHANGE IN BURMA (SEE SUGGESTED ACTIONS
AND INITIATIVES BELOW). THE BURMESE NEEDS IT -- AND THEY NEED IT
NOW!
IN SOLIDARITY,
