Support U.S. Pressure on Burma's Regime!

Sign the petition below to pressure Than Shwe's regime to release Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and other democracy supporters and to reopen offices of the National League for Democracy.

Petition:

To respond to the ongoing crackdown on Burma's democracy movement by the brutal and totalitarian regime of General Than Shwe, the U.S. government should promptly:

1). Ban all imports from Burma. Currently, the U.S. is a major trade partner for Burma's regime. By cutting off this trade, Burma's regime will lose a substantial source of revenue that helps it stay in power.

2). Freeze the regime's assets. As part of the War on Terrorism, the U.S. has frozen the accounts of terrorist organizations from around the world. Than Shwe's regime is a state-terrorist regime. All assets belonging to the regime, the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), should immediately be frozen.

3). Extend the visa ban on members of the regime. All members of the SPDC should be denied entry to the U.S. The visa ban should also be extended to members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA), the regime-affiliated organization responsible for attacking Aung San Suu Kyi's motorcade and killing several - possibly 70 or more - people. The USDA has been likened to Hitler's "Brownshirts".

4. Denounce Burma's military junta for its organized crime and conducting terrorist acts.

5. Build an international coalition with UK, EU and other allies to take strong and collective easure against Burma' military junta.

6. Discuss in the UN security council for UN intervention to remove military dictatorship in Burma.

Sincerely,
