A denouncement of the SPDC's recent press release

The accusation issued by the SPDC in regard to the posting of letter-bombs to the Burmese Embassies in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia are groundless and we firmly deny any association with these acts.

In the recent SPDC press release, the following matters were raised:

- Letter bombs

- Campaign against Drugs

It is apparent that the SPDC's Directorate of Defense Services Intelligence has intentionally fabricated it in time.

It is an obvious attempt by the SPDC to divert the world's attention from their current unwillingness to engage in dialogue with the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the recommendation by the United Nation Human Rights Commission Special Envoy to the world about the SPDC's reported systematic raping of Shan women.

In succession of the regime's administrations - the BSPP, SLORC and the SPDC - there has been a consistent dishonoring of the peoples' struggle for democracy and equal rights for every nationality of Burma as "external and internal destructive elements and insurgents. "

It is again an unquestionable attempt of the regime to deceive the international community by disguising itself under the skin of "anti-terrorism" which is currently dominating the international political arena, thus trying to portray those who have been striving for democracy and equal rights to ethnicity in Burma as terrorists and working for terrorist organisations.

Furthermore, we believe that it is an episode designed by the SPDC to create misunderstanding between the ASEAN member states, Japan and the Burmese democratic forces.

In succession of the different administrations of the regime, those who peacefully protest against the junta have been killed on the street, in the universities' campuses, and in monasteries' compounds. Due to these atrocities, the regime has been labelled as "the worst human rights violators" by the Amnesty International.

Throughout the Burmese political annals multi national ethnic forces and the democratic forces in Burma have never resorted to such violent methods but rather have been fighting against state-terrorism under the regime. And it is again important to stress that we are neither terrorists nor an organisation that supports terrorism.

Therefore, we believe that the accusations made by the SPDC are clearly unsubstantiated and meaningless. The regime has never been interested in solving the political problems via political dialogue but only to deploy violent methods when challenged.

This statement is issued with the message to the international community that the accusations made by the SPDC are merely an attempt to discredit the opposition.
